DEICON recently mitigated pedestrian‑induced vibration issues in a monumental staircase at a healthcare educational facility by installing three tuned mass dampers (TMDs) calibrated to the staircase’s first bending mode.
Before installation, DEICON performed vibration measurements to confirm the natural frequency and inherent damping. After tuning and commissioning the TMDs, damping in the target mode increased from 1.6% to 9.5%, resulting in a substantial reduction in vibration and improved user comfort.
This project showcases the effectiveness of DEICON TMDs in maintaining both the comfort and architectural integrity of modern, slender monumental staircases.
